Letters Out Loud

History's greatest letters, read aloud — live

History’s most famous, most brilliant, and most gloriously fed-up people, read aloud.

From Mozart to Groucho Marx, from Queen Victoria to Mark Twain — letters that were written in private, and were never meant to make you laugh quite this much. Actors take to the stage one by one, each with a single letter.

No props, no costumes — just a voice, a few words of introduction, and the letter itself. Seventy-five minutes of proof that the humans have always been exactly how they are- incredibly human.

***suitable for non-native and language learners.

Letters Out Loud was created with English language learners in mind. All of the letters in today’s programme were written in English — real letters, by real people, from across history. Each letter is introduced with a short summary and key vocabulary on screen, so you can follow along, discover new words in context, and hear how English sounds when it is read aloud with confidence. There is no test, no pressure, and no right or wrong way to listen. Just sit back, enjoy the stories, and let the language come to you.
