Mattia Sedda

Mattia Sedda is a theatre director, actor, and clown from Sardinia, Italy.

His path into theatre was not a straight one. At eighteen, he moved to Florence to study Political Science — and found performance instead. Working alongside practitioners including Thomas Richards, Duccio Bellugi Vannuccini, Charlotte Munksø, and Franco Farina gave him an early and serious grounding in the craft. He went on to train in London at the National Youth Theatre, the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Fontainebleau Acting School, and East 15 Acting School. Screen credits include the British sitcom Hapless (Amazon Prime, Season 2), with a feature film forthcoming.

His work as a director and performer is built around the body — what it can do, how it holds attention, what happens when it commits fully to a moment on stage. That foundation comes from years of study in clown and physical comedy with Philippe Gaulier, Spymonkey, Viggo Venn, and Eric Davis, among others.

In 2024, he created CHOIN, his debut solo clown show, directed by Aitor Basauri, co-founder of Spymonkey. It has since played the Vaults Festival, Brighton Fringe, Barcelona Fringe, Edinburgh Fringe 2024 and 2025, and the Museum of Comedy — selling out the latter, as well as Grandi Autori in Cagliari — with further dates in Milan and London. Chortle named it one of the ten clowns to see at the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe.

He directs Our Town for Blue Book Theatre Company, opening November 2026 at Teatreneu, Barcelona.
