We are a multicultural ensemble of artists from over 25 countries, producing professional and educational theatre plays in English.
Blue Book is a design-led theatre company. We are a multicultural ensemble from over 25 countries, producing professional and educational plays in English.
Barcelona is one of the most international cities in the world, and yet the people who live here, locals and internationals alike, often exist in parallel. We were founded in 2022 on a simple belief: theatre can change that. We work in English not because it is anyone’s mother tongue, but because it is the language we share. It is neutral ground, where a Catalan actor, a Georgian dancer, an Irish playwright and a Kazakh performer can stand side by side and make something that belongs to all of them.
Design is how we hold that together. Form leads. The brand, print, digital and motion work is produced in-house, by the same company that makes the plays, so the poster and the staging come from the same set of decisions.
We have produced over a dozen major productions on Barcelona’s stages — from Neil Simon to Tennessee Williams, from dark comedy to intimate two-handers. In 2026 we were named Theatre Company of the Year by the Spanish Business Awards.
The work is not about the awards, or even the plays. It is about the audience: a local Barcelonian and a newly arrived expat sit side by side, laugh at the same line, and feel, perhaps for the first time, that they belong to the same city. That is what we are building. Not only a theatre company, but a shared space for Barcelona to see itself, and the world, differently.
The Blue Book Theatre Company is dedicated to Joshua James Kelly who peacefully passed away in his home on April of 2023. He loved live theatre and being surrounded by generous and loving human beings.
